What are the different types of collagen?
There are over 20 different types of collagen. However, there are a couple that stand out most.
Types I and III are the most prevalent, with type I accounting for 90% of collagen. Type I collagen strengthens hair, skin, nails, and bones. Type III collagen impacts bone integrity and strengthens the blood vessels in our circulatory system.
While type II collagen is less prevalent within the human body, it is renowned for promoting joint health. Type II collagen is sourced from animal collagen, as opposed to the marine collagen sourced for types I and III collagen.
What are the benefits of type I collagen?
Type I collagen is the building block of our skin’s structure, making up around 80% of our skin’s dermal layer. Our bodies produce collagen naturally, but its production begins to decrease as we age.
